Best Affordable Korean BBQ in Seoul (Under ₩40,000)

Every tourist in Seoul wants Korean BBQ. Most end up at the same five tourist-trap restaurants in Myeongdong paying ₩30,000 for mediocre samgyeopsal and a side of regret. Meanwhile, actual Koreans are eating better meat for less money at places you'll never find on TripAdvisor.

We pulled the top-rated affordable BBQ restaurants from CatchTable, Korea's #1 restaurant reservation app (3.5 million users). These are the grills where locals eat — verified by thousands of real reviews.

Sancheong Sootbul Garden (산청숯불가든) — Euljiro

4.6★ (5,320 reviews) · Grilled Pork · ₩10,000–₩40,000

The most legendary BBQ restaurant in Seoul. Sancheong has been grilling pork over real charcoal in Euljiro since before the neighborhood became cool. The euljiro branch alone has over 5,000 reviews on CatchTable — and a second branch next door because one building couldn't handle the demand.

Order the 목살 (pork neck) and 항정살 (pork jowl). The charcoal grill does the work. You'll smell the smoke on your clothes for the next two days, and you won't mind.

Pro tip: They also have a second branch (4.6★, 2,544 reviews) right next door. If the main branch has a wait, try the second one.

Hanmiok (한미옥) — Cheongdam

4.5★ (825 reviews) · Meat · ₩10,000–₩80,000

A premium beef experience in Cheongdam that somehow stays affordable — at least for lunch. The lunch set starts around ₩10,000, which is unheard of in one of Seoul's most expensive neighborhoods. Dinner goes up to ₩80,000 for premium cuts, but you're getting Cheongdam-quality beef without the Cheongdam markup.

They also have a Yeouido branch (4.5★, 1,350 reviews) popular with the office crowd.

Ilpyeon Sirloin (일편시르인) — Hongdae

4.7★ (351 reviews) · Grilled Beef · ₩30,000–₩50,000

A newer addition to Seoul's BBQ scene that's climbing fast. Ilpyeon specializes in sirloin cuts — a departure from the pork-heavy Korean BBQ tradition. The quality-to-price ratio on their beef has earned them a 4.7 rating, which is exceptionally high for a meat restaurant on CatchTable.

They also have a Myeongdong branch (4.7★, 216 reviews) that's more tourist-accessible.

Woomoolzip (우물집) — Jongno

4.3★ (2,562 reviews) · Korean · ₩20,000–₩50,000

A Jongno institution with over 2,500 reviews. Woomoolzip does traditional Korean-style grilled meat — the kind of place where the 아저씨 (ajusshi) at the next table orders soju by the bottle and the meat comes with a proper spread of banchan. This is the unsexy, authentic Korean BBQ experience that tourists rarely find.

Kuk Bin Gwan (국빈관) — Seochon

4.5★ (677 reviews) · Grilled Beef · ₩10,000–₩60,000

Hidden in Seochon (the quieter side of Gyeongbokgung), Kuk Bin Gwan serves quality grilled beef in a neighborhood that hasn't been overrun by tourists yet. The ₩10,000 entry point makes it one of the best value beef spots in central Seoul.

Anywaybeef (애니웨이비프) — Gwanghwamun

4.9★ (1,705 reviews) · Grilled Beef · ₩30,000–₩50,000

4.9 stars out of 1,705 reviews. That's an almost impossibly high rating for a restaurant on CatchTable. Anywaybeef in Gwanghwamun has achieved something rare — near-universal approval from Korean diners. The beef is premium, the grilling is precise, and the price stays under ₩50,000 even for their best cuts.

CHUNGKIWA TOWN (청기와타운) — Euljiro/Myeongdong

4.7★ (540 reviews) · Meat · ₩20,000–₩30,000

The most budget-friendly option on this list. CHUNGKIWA TOWN delivers solid grilled meat for ₩20,000–₩30,000 per person in the Euljiro/Myeongdong area. It's one of the rare BBQ spots near the tourist center that locals actually respect — 4.7 stars from Korean reviewers is the proof.

How to Book Korean BBQ Like a Local

Use CatchTable. Seriously. Walking into popular BBQ restaurants without a reservation means 30–60 minute waits, especially on weekends. The CatchTable app is free, available in English, and lets you book most of these restaurants in advance.

Go at lunch. Many BBQ restaurants offer the same meat at lower prices during lunch service. Hanmiok's lunch starts at ₩10,000 vs. ₩20,000+ at dinner.

Skip samgyeopsal at tourist spots. If you're in Myeongdong and see a BBQ restaurant with English menus and photos of celebrities on the wall, keep walking. The restaurants on this list are where your Korean friends would take you.

Order 1인분 (one portion) per person, then add. Korean BBQ portions are designed to be ordered per person. Start with one portion each and order more. Over-ordering is the most expensive mistake tourists make.
